WARDOGS Base Building Basics — Blueprints, Hammers and Rookie Walls

The WARDOGS building tutorial for beginners: blueprint placement, hammer speed tricks, wall heights, airlock doors and the right construction order.

Fortifications are only buildable inside a placed FOB's blue radius — keep an eye on the minimap boundary before you drop any blueprint. Everything else is technique, and it compounds.
Site It Near a Tower
Towers are natural cover, and holding several lets you pull the hotzone toward your base — so the best FOB sits close to one, inside the combat zone. Outside the zone, construction earns almost nothing. Use terrain: churches, buildings and the tower itself act as free walls, saving you materials, and backing onto high ground cuts exposure to mortars and vehicle rushes. The FOB's own storage already holds a Medium Hammer, Small Hammer and a wrench — start swinging before you spend.
Hammer Technique
- Hit the yellow X on blueprints: progress climbs much faster than random hammering.
- Cancel the swing animation: release the mouse button the instant the hammer connects, then click again. On long wall lines this halves build time.
- Keep a step back from the X to steady it — no shuffling.
- Hammers also demolish: misplaced blueprints and abandoned walls come back down and free the space.
Walls and Doors — Where Rookies Fail
- HESCO walls: four blocks high (vehicles can't vault it), two to three blocks deep, with wire on top to stop climbing.
- One vehicle entrance, built as a double-door airlock — every door opens to a C4 charge, so extra doors are extra holes.
- Doors auto-close after about a minute, but don't trust it: stand clear so the door actually seals, and close things by hand anyway.
- Sandbags face outward. Bags on the inside of a wall give the enemy a step-ladder into your base.
What to Build First
- Anti-air missile — enemy helicopters and jets will flatten an undefended base; two launchers if you can afford them, one primary one backup.
- Machine gun nests on the lower level facing the expected approach — their weakness is downward depression, so position them for infantry sweeps.
- Mortars, dispersed — clustered tubes die to a single enemy salvo, and every mortar needs a clear firing arc.
Logistics and Escape
Materials come by truck: the FOB's starter stock covers only the first walls, so schedule pallet deliveries before you run dry — and note that building itself pays, making the whole loop a legitimate Support income. Leave an inner retreat corridor with stepped defenses, and reserve a parking spot for the respawn tracked vehicle; a walled-in truck is the difference between holding the zone and watching it from HQ.
Nothing lasts forever — the point is to make the enemy pay so dearly for your base that they lose the map everywhere else.
