Best Starting Class in WARDOGS — What New Players Should Pick

Driver, Medic or Recon? Which WARDOGS role earns safest for beginners, and why assault, support and pilot can wait.

WARDOGS has no locked classes — XP follows your equipment — but your role is a choice you make every time you spend. Here is where new players should start.
First Pick: Driver (Logistics)
Best for: anyone, especially shaky aim. Haul supply crates, taxi teammates to objectives, stay off the front line. One delivered crate pays $2,500, gear costs almost nothing, and dying rarely loses money. You learn the whole map while your bankroll and Driver level climb, and later unlocks like the Humvee let you carry people with firepower attached. Downside: it's logistics — if you wanted gunfights, this isn't it.
Second Pick: Medic
Best for: squad players learning by doing. Trail your assault buddies, pick up the downed, patch the wounded. Revives and heals pay serious cash and XP with almost no aim requirement, and the Medic's SMG lets you join close fights when there's downtime. The build transforms at level 11 when the defibrillator unlocks — our Medic leveling guide covers the loop. The catch: never wander alone; a solo Medic is free XP for the other team.
Third Pick: Recon
Best for: patient lone wolves. Binoculars first, sniper later. Marking enemies pays immediately and again when teammates kill your marks, and you can watch the whole map from a safe ridge while learning every sight line. Don't rush an expensive bolt gun — pure sniping levels slowly, and close-range encounters will punish you.
What to Avoid at First
- Assault: constant frontline contact punishes weak map knowledge, and every death burns kit money. Come back once you're rich and confident.
- Support (builder): hammers, materials and FOB planning are brilliant but expensive habits for a veteran; a new player will just fund mistakes.
- Pilot: the highest skill floor in the game, and crashing a helicopter you bought is the fastest way to go broke. Practice in the range first — see our helicopter controls setup.
The Real Answer
Leveling follows gear, not classes — a sniper plus a defibrillator plus a pistol levels three tracks at once (full breakdown in class leveling methods). Start as a driver with a medic's pouch in your pack, and you'll bank cash while every track levels.
